NV "Les Murgiers"Brut (Sparkling)
A blanc de noirs from 90% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. A nose of dried fruit, white fruit and citrus flowery hints. Powerful aromatic fruit flavours with a hint of brioche. A broad and expressive champagne.
Story: Delphine Boulard now heads the estate she co-founded in 2009 with her father Francis. The domaine’s three hectares of holdings spread around three of Champagne, each with differing soils but all farmed biodynamically. Les Murgiers is the flagship wine of the estate and embodies the structured style of Francis Boulard champagnes. The grapes come from six small parcels of Meunier spread through the Vallee de la Marne & Massif St Thierry which are the Boulard family`s original historic land. “Les Murgiers” are the traditional vineyard walls in the area built from river stones.
Vinification: Grapes averaging 35 years-old grown on clay and limestone soils. Grapes are hand harvested and gently pressed then vinified in old small oak barrels. Only the juice from la cuvée (the first pressing) is used. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation using only indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation with stirring of the lees for 10 to 12 days. The wine rests on the less for a minimum of 18 months, then is disgorged with no dosage added, and allowed to settle another 6 months before release. All activities in the cellar follow the lunar calendar.
Match it with: An ideal aperitif– with starters such as raw or poached fish, pâtés, prosciutto hams, poultry.
