A 100% Gamay cuvée from a single parcel of 150 year-old vines in the Beaujolais Cru of Morgon. Dark red fruits and some spices, with liquorice and mint flavours, which Thévenet says come from the age of these special vines. Lovely balance of acid and tannins and a lingering finish.

Anthony Thévenet is of the rising stars of Beaujolais, and his wines are gathering global acclaim from even those usually skeptical of the region. These vines for this cuvée are located in Douby, an area between the famous hill of Côte de Py and the village of Fleurie. The gently sloping parcel faces directly south, and is warmer than uphill vineyards, allowing maximum maturity. A deep, yet very elegant. The climate here is warm by contrast to those uphill.

Vinification: Grapes from 150 year-old vines growing on soils composed of granite rocks and granite sand. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo whole bunch carbonic maceration for 20 days with no sulphites or yeasts added. Fermentation in controlled temperature vats with no lees stirring, and total malolactic fermentation. Aged for 10 months in large old oak barrels. There is no fining or filtration.

Match it with: Mushroom dishes like wild mushroom risotto and roasted mushroom polenta, smoked or stewed pork.
