Jurançon "Marie Kattalin" (Sweet) 2017
Domaine de Souch is located on the first foothills of the Atlantic Pyrenees in the heart of the Bearn – the original homeland of Henry the IV - at an altitude of 332m. The vines are planted on the hillside, facing south and overlooking the Pyrenees and the Pic du Midi d`Ossau. The estate has been under biodynamic management since 1994.
This late harvest Domaine de Souch Jurançon Moelleux is a fantastic introduction to sweet wine. Beaming with fresh aromas of exotic fruits balanced with a beautiful acidity, each layer revealing something new.
This wine is best enjoyed at 12°C to 14°C with a chicken "aux onions", veal Blanquette, salty-sweet dishes. Cheeses such as blue cheese, Saint-Nectaire, Vieux Berger or goat cheese from the Pyrenees and the Basque Country, and Tarte Tatin.
Terroir: Clay and limestone soil with puddingstone, "Poudingue" in French.
Average age of vines: 35 years old
Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested around Mid October/Beg of November. Grapes have to be very ripe but they are not looking for "passerillage". They want to keep freshness, fresh aromas of exotic fruits. Wine is vinified in a stainless steel tank.
