IGT Venezia Giulia “Modri” (Red) 2003
A 100% Pinot Noir. Modri is the local name for Pinot Nero. Notes of black plum and black cherry with earthy undertones and a touch of cumin. Lots of structure and tannins, with more weight and texture than a typical Pinot. Just as you’d expect from Radikon. Now with 20 years of bottle age this wine is in its peak drinking window.
Story: In a tiny village in the far northeast corner of Italy, Saša Radikon produces arguably the finest skin-contact wines in the world. Saša is revered around the world as a pioneer and absolute master of macerated wines. This early cuvée from Saša sees Pinot Noir getting the classic Radikon treatment. A month of maceration gives a whole new dimension to this popular grape!
Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested and macerated on their skins for 30 days in oak vats. Vinification in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. The wine is then matured for 5 years in old oak barrels. The bottles are then aged another 5 years before being released. No added sulphur.
Match it with: Braised pork with mushrooms, Dishes with caramelised onions, goat cheeses.
