Coulée de Serrant (White) 2023
The flagship wine of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant. Explosive on the palate, with a divine fusion of dried fruit, confit citrus and a touch of honey! Fog and cooling influences from the river create a bit of botrytis punch, this is a weighty wine that is, at the same time, elegant and refined. Nicolas calls it, “A great white wine that almost has the impression of a sweet wine.”
Despite the vast size of the Loire Valley wine region, few of its winemakers have acquired folklore status. But mention the name Nicolas Joly, and nearly anyone who has even a passing interest in organic wine can recount his tale. For nearly 50 years, Joly has practiced what some might call extreme biodynamics on 12th century Chenin Blanc vineyards near Savennières. His three cuvées have become almost as mythical as the man, with each release being carefully allocated, whilst spurring much debate about typicity, consistency and to what degree oxidative notes are friend or foe.
Vinification: Hand-harvested when the grapes had maximum maturity and some botrytis development. Aged in 500L old barrels for 6-8 months, lightly-filtered and bottled.
Match it with: Soft cheeses, pork, rich fish dishes
