The flagship Malbec from the Domaine and the ultimate expression of the Domain’s special terror, and this grape. Intense black fruit, earthiness, leather, tobacco. All of the classic Cahors notes, but with a refined elegance. Velvety tannins, lots of acidity and a long finish. A real stunner!

Story: Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve are leading a renaissance of the Cahors region. They share a vision of refined, elegant wines with a distinct personality. This wine comes from a high density, 2 hectare plot at the top of a hill, 25 km from the estate. It has especially acidic soils, with only red clay and no limestone. The 24 year-old Malbec vines are from pre-phyloxerra massale selection vines grafted on half French and half American rootstock. They waited 10 years after planting for the first harvest, which was in 2011. These vines yield smaller grapes with thicker skins. Catherine says, “La Margeurite, after 20 years, has the same delicate floral quality of a Burgundian Pinot.”

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and undergo a long fermentation with indigenous yeasts and manual punch downs. The wine is then aged for 18-22 months in oak barrels. Unfined and Unfiltered.

Match it with: Beef bourguignon, Pot au feu, Ox tail.
