Alella “La Rumbera” (Orange) 2021
"You can really taste the Sauló terroir in La Rumbera - it`s very crystalline- very pure and clean." Oriol Artigas
Oriol’s 7.5 hectares of vines in Vilassar de Dalt, his hometown, are left to grow as naturally as possible. He uses the lunar calendar to plan production, pruning his vines only very minimally and allowing nature to curate the soil between the plants. As such, wild vegetation has sprung up around his vines, allowing them to grow freely in a natural environment. Oriol’s ancient vineyards of native vines are largely based on granite rock, known locally as Sauló, at between 100 and 350 metres elevation. This results in wines often rich in minerality, conjuring aromas that will take you all the way to the Mediterranean.
Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested, 50 % are destemmed, crushed and left to macerate with the skins for 3-4days. The remaining 50 % is destemmed only, and kept in contact with the skins for 9 days. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and the wine is left to rest for 10 months in stainless steel and fibreglass tanks.
